Easy, Martin.  First, Mouss's other points -- existing compatibility,
borrowing of code -- don't apply to Linux, much less Solaris.  Second, I
hardly think that BSD capatibilty is controversial in *this* forum. 
Globally, I don't know.  The globe is a big place.
