Indeed. Things this could handle:
  * network interfaces (ifwatchd?)
  * removable devices like CDs, floppies (amd?)
  * USB and firewire devices: disks, network
  * PCMCIA/Cardbus devices: disks(?), network

Seems like a call for a bigger framework... :)
