No.

At one point, the change first happened with NetBSD.  With 4.1,
NetBSDs did not work, and XFree86's did (with 4.0 they both
worked).  With 4.2, however, neither of them worked.

Is it possible the change originated with a modification made to
xsrc?  However, either way, I'll let XFree86 know.
