Hello there.
My graphics adapter in my primary NetBSD server is beginning to show a
dimming and striped imaged, so I guess it is about time to replace the
it. Does anybody know if an Asus V9520/TD works with X without any
problems?
Can somebody recommend a not too expensive AGP graphics adapter
preferably with DVI, VGA and S-video output that works with X?
I have recently installed NetBSD v162 on a Compaq Presario 6620dk PC
without any problems with respect to NetBSD.
But it seems I cannot configure X correctly, because everytime I try to
start X with the twm window-manager and an Xterm session the system
switches to the X console and shows an outlined xterm session.
But the pointer is unmoveable and the system does not react to mouse
clicks. So the only thing I can do is terminate the X session with
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or zoom in and oot with Ctrl-Alt-+/-.
Although I am not very experienced in configuring the X server
I suspect the problem has something to do with the mouse device not
being recognized during initial system boot. Because dmesg has not a
single reference to any mouse device. On my primary system (an IBM
Aptiva 2178-840) where X works fine the following messages are
displayed during boot:
imm@aptiva.immnet.dk:/home/imm => dmesg | grep -Ei 'mouse|pms|ws'
wsdisplay0 at vga1 kbdmux 1: console (80x25, vt100 emulation)
wsmux1: connecting to wsdisplay0
wskbd0 at pckbd0: console keyboard, using wsdisplay0
pms0 at pckbc0 (aux slot)
wsmouse0 at pms0 mux 0
wsdisplay0: screen 1 added (80x25, vt100 emulation)
wsdisplay0: screen 2 added (80x25, vt100 emulation)
wsdisplay0: screen 3 added (80x25, vt100 emulation)
wsdisplay0: screen 4 added (80x25, vt100 emulation)
pms_disable: command error
imm@aptiva.immnet.dk:/home/imm =>
but nothing similar is display in the Compaq server dmesg output:
imm@compaq.immnet.dk:/home/imm => dmesg | grep -Ei 'mouse|pms|ws'
wsdisplay0 at vga1 kbdmux 1: console (80x25, vt100 emulation)
wsmux1: connecting to wsdisplay0
wskbd0 at pckbd0: console keyboard, using wsdisplay0
wsdisplay0: screen 1 added (80x25, vt100 emulation)
wsdisplay0: screen 2 added (80x25, vt100 emulation)
wsdisplay0: screen 3 added (80x25, vt100 emulation)
wsdisplay0: screen 4 added (80x25, vt100 emulation)
imm@compaq.immnet.dk:/home/imm =>
(The wsmouse and pms entries are missing)
Also the only errors displayed in my Compaq X log file are:
imm@compaq.immnet.dk:/home/imm => grep EE /var/log/XFree86.0.log
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(II) Loading extension MIT-SCREEN-SAVER
(--) I810(0): IO registers at addr 0xEE000000
(EE) GARTInit: Unable to open /dev/agpgart (Device not configured)
imm@compaq.immnet.dk:/home/imm =>
Can anybody give me a clue to what I should look for in order to get
X up and running on the Compaq server?
Kind regards
Ib-Michael Martinsen
