rework DNS intro section.

XXX: The original document from which this was taken has considerably
     more markup, such as the first time each term is defined, and so
     forth.  I'll come back and re-add this when I next get a chance,
     and after becoming more familiar with docbook.

XXX: I wrote the original text in 1995, and some assumptions and
     conventions valid at the time may seem quaint now. More
     importantly, it says nothing about IPv6.

XXX: I don't much like the rendering of the <varablelist>
     elements. This is the right semantic markup to use for the
     purpose, and it is/will be used elsewhere; perhaps someone could
     do some stylesheet work to make them look nicer? (eg, the html
     compact form, just for one.)
