cannot compile xcolors under Linux with native X11

Hi all.
I cannot compile x11/xcolors under Linux/Debian with native X11.
X11_TYPE is not set in /etc/mk.conf, i.e. it should default
to native.
xpkgwedge-1.15 and x11-links-0.30 are installed.
