Please feel free to create an updated package in pkgsrc-wip.

But, it is probably better to build from upstream version control
system, and debug there.

My impresssion is that it should not be too difficult to make it work on
NetBSD, but that it's going to take some work understanding the details.

I don't know of anything else that behaves like this (plaintext via
fuse, ciphertext in some other filesystem) that I would recommend.
