5 packages? It pulls in pcre2, curl, libunistring, both libidn and
libidn2, plus perl and 17 assorted perl modules, which is a mess in
its own right. git-gitk adds to this: tk and tcl.
tcl and tk together are not even a third the size of perl.
cvs depends on nothing (except the zlib in base) so you're way off the
mark.
