Re: ham/dpbox trying to build this unstripped, no joy

I will give it a shot when I get back home.  dpbox crashes when a new user connects and tries to set his/her home BBS with MYBBS. It also crashes sometimes when just forwarding with another BBS.  It does not do this in Slackware 11 (the last Linux I could get this old stuff to work on).   I did see the -s flag, but stupidity did not realize that make clean deletes my edit.  I guess “make extract” will freshen the work directory, and a subsequent “make” won’t re-extract.

Thanks,

In this case, the issue may be that the upstream makefile is forcing -s.
see sources/Makefile.netbsd, line 17.

It is unclear to me how install -s interacts with strip(1).

I have the impression that the norm is that a package's makefiles should
just invoke install, without -s.

So extract, remove the -s and proceed
