Seconded.
What has not come up here is that if we had pkgsrc support in sysinst, we
could offer a {novice,switchers} meta pkg that has a novice-friendly
editor, coloured ls, bash and whatever things people coming from MSDOS,
Linuxes or Mac may expect to exist.
That would leave adding an editor simpler than vi(1) to /etc/rescue, but I
guess if you find yourself needing /etc/rescue, vi(1) will not be your
biggest problem.
