Possible interest in the rsync project.
Hello there,
I've seen the rsync project and I might be interested,
I'm not sure what is the ultimate goal, from what I've read
in the list archives, the main concerns are on the server side:
- Keep a cache of file hashes, so we won't stress the disk every time
a client makes a request.
- Have a bsd licensed implementation of rsync.
- Keep compatibility with GNU rsync client.
- Work as a centralized repository.
Am I missing something ?
My main doubts:
- The idea is to have a port, so other BSDs could benefit directly,
or having it included in the default distribution ?
- Is there any interest in the client side ? I would probably write it after
the server, if so, transport over ssh and family is highly desirable ?
- Should we keep compatibility with all rsync protocol versions ? That's
probably a huge deal of work ?
- Would there be any mentor of some sort ?
- I also wouldn't have full time to dedicate to the project, so mainly
friday and
weekend (so much more than the expected 2 months), is that a problem ?
It's been a long time since I don't touch NetBSD, I've been on OpenBSD for
some time, so I'd need some advices on KNF and project guidelines.
Thanks.
