Fix source directory detection in the Libtool case

Correctly detect the source directory when the libtool auxiliary binaries
are prefixed with lt-, as is the case in some Linux systems.  This finally
lets make installcheck work *without* having to use --disable-fast-install!

Also fix some breakage in the handling of the source directory in the C
binding.

Closes ticket #27 (again).
