That is 'normal' for part of make that has hit the -j limit on the
number of jobs.

And that would be waiting to relay job output and catch child exits
(the signal handler writes to a pipe).
I just got a '[1] Bus error (core dumped)'
and 'nbmake: Child (15650) status 8a00 not in table?'
xtos broke something badly :-)
