As of sometime last night (201104130300Z, approximately) I'm still seeing
this problem.  I mostly noticed that 'fsck' failed claiming it couldn't
find "libc.so.12" even though it's in "/lib".  A number of other services
failed too, again most complaining about lack of "libc.so.12".

I haven't yet attempted the workaround suggested in:

I rebooted with "-as" and used "/rescue/fsck" to manually check the
filesystems, then mounted them.

Once everything was mounted, I simply exited, but a number of services
still failed.  Notably, network initialization failed in the automatic
startup but succeed when re-run manually.  Similarly with rpcbind, amd,
mountd, nfsd (and presumedly sshd since I didn't restart that and find
I can't log into the machine to provide 'uname -a' output--even though
I saw an sshd process running before I left the machine's location).

The latest batch of commits since then break update builds, so I'll
have to start with a from-scratch build before trying again.
