Ah, but the small change suggested in

by mlelstv@ seems to be exactly what I envisaged as a proper fix. I
understand that it may be contrary to wishes for devices to not be spun
up until explicitly opened for use, but apart from that, it looks right.
A possible improvement might be to change that "#if 0" to "#ifndef
DKWEDGE_AUTODISCOVER", so the extra effort is only put in if needed.
Then, one can remove that option from kernels one does not want to spin
up present, but unused, disks.
I'll play with it at home, and try it on the rock64 the next time I'm at
the cabin.
