 Looking closer, the configure script indeed finds lua missing
 
 configure:24826: result: yes
 configure:24950: checking for lua
 configure:24983: result: no
 configure:25013: checking Lua version is in range 501 <= v < 502
 configure:25042: result: no
 
 but then decides to invoke it anyway. So it looks like an upstream problem.
