Many of us, or myself at least!, consider the nightmare to be Gnome
itself, and we try to avoid it at all cost.

For example I'm going to endeavour to ditch Gtk from my next GNU Emacs
build.  I have test builds of emacs 29.x configured using the "lucid"
toolkit and I'm much happier with it.

Interesting.


It doesn't help that neither GTK-2.x nor GTK-3.x apps can be
static-linked either.  I detest dynamic linking for most of the uses it
gets and vastly prefer to static-link everything.

I did not know about that. Everyday I learn something interesting here.
