which X server are you using?
Xdaniver should be pretty fast (for an ECS server). You can boost it
by NOT using 720x480, but smaller, or NOT using 4 bit depth, but
less. Else the CPU has to wait, more or less, til vertical blank time
to access the chipmem.
I'm operating my A3000 (030@25 MHz) in this way (Xdaniver -width 720
-height 480 -depth 3 is, I think, the calling syntax) and it is much
faster than -depth 4.
