I was using the ntpd from NetBSD-6. I only tried to
build from the ntp.org source after I'd been unable
to get ntpd working.
I also have NetBSD-6 on a desktop and another server
and not seen problems with those systems although
without gps/pps server lines in ntp.conf. I then made
symlinks for gps/pps on the spare server and tried
with as near as possible same config file as on the
problem pc. This didn't give any errors so I
reinstalled NetBSD-6 on the problem pc and with
existing ntp.conf this no longer gave any errors. I've
checked /var/log/messages from boot of the previous
install and from todays reinstall and they match
exactly. I'd also previosly checked that the ntpd files
in /usr/sbin were same size/date as in the distribution
but I didn't compare checksums.
I was using a custom kernel for PPS rather than GENERIC
same as on my other NetBSD-6 sytems and that hasn't
changed.
Sorry for the noise.
David
