All it does is to keep xfree86's radeon driver from touching the  
graphics controller's PLLs - helps on iBooks where the radeon driver  
gets things wrong otherwise but doesn't do any good anywhere else.

Do you use radeonfb? If you do please try genfb instead. If that  
stops the crashes we know it's radeonfb trying to reinitialize the  
video chip. Since genfb doesn't know how to do that you'd end up with  
a messed up console though. If it still crashes we have a problem.
Radeonfb works fine with most r2xx and some older variants but it's  
known to be troublesome on r3xx and newer, if it works at all.
Also, I've seen Xorg mess up the video chip bad enough on exit to  
keep radeonfb  from restoring the console even on my rv280. That was  
Xorg 7.0 though.
