I'll try with firewire once the powerbook mouse problem is sorted.
It's possible that the firewire doesn't work, since, it would
be odd that the oldest and newest PPC powerbooks don't work, and
the middle ones do.
Indeed. My GigE G4 should have a fairly early firewire chip as well -
it never caused any trouble though.
Thanks for the DDB command. I'll build a kernel tonight and
try it. I tried OpenBSD on the 15" g4 and it didn't even boot
the install kernel. Sadly it powered off so I couldn't see which
device was failing.
I bet it's ADB-related. The PowerBook PMUs are /very/ picky about
commands they don't understand, if you try to issue /any/ ADB command
on a PowerBook PMU which doesn't have an ADB bus it will power down.
No such thing with the PMUs used in desktop machines like the PowerMac
G4 series.
Linux doesn't work with the built in track pad either.
Unfortunately I don't have the hardware - it should be easy to find
out who wrote the driver though.
have fun
Michael
