the native groff segfaults when building 

  /usr/src/release-5/objdir/vax/tools/groff/build/doc/pic.ps
  /usr/src/release-5/objdir/vax/tools/groff/build/doc/grnexmpl.ps

(sorry, those paths are specific to my build, but you get the idea)

In both cases the output file is still created, so simply restarting
allows the build to continue.

At some point soon I'll make a better reproducible case and try to get
gdb on it and maybe figure out why, or at least make a backtrace for
someone to look at.
