gcc(1) requires more than ~350MB to build some C++ sources, but after about an hour all userland processes looks not respond, while the kernel responds ping from other hosts. Does anyone see the similar problem?

In the past, I think it took about a day for my 4000/90a to compile cmake, so I wonder what's faster now. No problems :)
Was your VAX system built from the latest sources that include the preemption and locking fixes?
If so, then I wonder what's different about your simh setup. Do you use (open)simh's idling, for instance?
