I'm still confused.... What's wrong with using Terminal for the mac?
You say it's missing 24-bit colour support? But what for? How can you
need more than 256 colours in a terminal?
The 256 colour palette is .. let's be kind, "sub-optimal". There just
isn't enough range for some of us. If you try and compare the Solarized
Light theme using the 256 palette vs the real colours you'll see what I
mean, it just looks completely different. It's very heavily skewed
towards certain colours.
Personally for me the main reason I want it is for IRC nick colouring.
The 16-colour palette is way too restrictive and you end up with a lot
of nicks reusing the same colours. I'm currently using the 256 colour
set, but there are very very few colours that I like from it, so it's
better, but not ideal. You can see it in action in the screenshots in
my original reply.
Otherwise, yeh, I'm pretty happy with Terminal.app. They've fixed all
the things that used to be missing that I had to previously use SIMBL
plugins for, e.g. Cmd-[0-9] to switch tabs, etc.
Xterm has the same limit.
It's been many years since I used xterm, but:
https://github.com/termstandard/colors?tab=readme-ov-file#fully-supporting
suggests it's had 24-bit colour support for 7 years or so.
