Actually you can use the above method with just an install CD and
nothing else (assuming you have access to the 'hfsutils' package):
'ofwboot.xcf' can be loaded from the CD for the first boot of the
newly installed system, and then the 'hfsutils' package can be used
for formatting the boot partition and copying the booter to it.
No Mac OS is required; the only requirement is the 'hfsutils' package itself.
